Travel modes In Kerala

Kerala is one of the state ,having full fledged connectivity  by all mode of transport.It has  Road,Rail,Water  and Air connectivity between cities,town and even places.All the Major cities have international  airports.The port city Kochi  is a  the businesses as well as travel hub.All kind of  transport Services are available in this city.This City also have Metro Rail Services and   a travel hub,the only one in the state, at  Vyttila junction.

The capital city Thiruvanthapuram ,once know as Trivandrum ,has  a good network of connectivity means other than water transport.The international airport facilitates international as well as domestic services.The domestic services  connects Mumbai,Delhi,Chennai  etc.It has services connecting cities in Kerala like Kozhikode,once known as Calicut, Kannur etc.The state capital is connected to the other big cities by NH 66 ,earlier it was  NH 47, prior to the new numbering of National highways.The proposed Vizhinjam Deep Sea port will provide wet connectivity to the city.

The State has a total Road length of 423056 KM ,Almost all the roads are all whether roads with bitumen surfaces.The share of National Highway is  1798 Km .Out of which,The stretch between Cherthala and Walayar is developed to meet four lane traffic .Remaining length is double lane.The national highways carry around  50 to 60 Percent of Road traffic ,and also 80 percent of road accidents are registered in the High Way.

The National Highway stretch connect almost all the cities ,town and even small villages to the Major Cities like Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode. The average travel speed,in four lane road is around 60 to 70 km per hour  and  it is below 50 in other roads,depending upon the time of travel.

The average travel time in the  four lane National Highway varies between 45 to 75 Km depends the  time of travel.In peak hours ,ie  around  10 am 11 am and 430 pm to 630 pm the average city speed falls drsastically.The average speed in two lane type highways is around  30 to 45 km ph.

The port city of Kochi is connected to the  Capital City by  NH  66  There is an industrial corridor for accomodating goods flow  to and from the port between.

The Railconnectivity is  also very good in the state. Ngaercoil to  Coimbatore  via,Trivandrum,Kollam,Alappuzha or Kottayam,Ernakulam,Thrissur,Palakkad, and Ernakulam to Manglore

via,Thirssur,Shornur,Tirur,Kozhikode,Kannur and Kasragode are the main route for train journey.Ernakulam Gurvayur  and Shornur Nilambur ,Kollam  Trichy routes are also operating by Railway.The two Divisions in kerala are Palakkad and Trivandrum.
Railway operates  Super fast Express service,Express Service,Non Stop Duronto and Jansatabdi services along with  Local Passenger services between  two places in the peak time.

LOCAL  TRANSPORT
The state has a good network of private stage carriage services  providing passenger trasnport facility  in a fixed route according to fixed time shedule and  fixed fare.It is the one of the state which implemented the provision of Motor Vehicles Act 1988,in the true spirit,along with few other south inidan states.Apart from the private sector  ,state owned KSRTC  is also conducting such services.Majority of the Inter district services are run by KSRTC,who enjoy monopoly.The city services ,Town services as well as lot of services connecting  between Rural /Urban area are done by thge private sector.
