Is The Road Accidents are increasing during COVID 19 Lock Down period in India?
The answer is YES
The supreme Court Committe Monitoring Road Acciddnts in India has reacehd in such a conclusion.When the actual numbers are counted ,the numberof accidents and corresponding deaths are low ,But something alraming is happening,
DUE TO LOCK DOWN THE VEHICLE MOVEMENT IS ALMOST ZERO.
Still road Accidents and deaths are taking place.
This is very alarming .
Last week Ernakulam District Witness two diffrent accidents and in each 3 people died so far.In the first case vehicle ran out of high way and hit aganist a road side dwelling place and in the second case a car hit ran over to a shop and three people gathered to by certain food items died at the spot.The first incident took place at 9 pm wheras the second incident took place at 4 30 pm approximate.
Why such accidnets are happening when the traffic flow is very low ?
Answer is Rash and Negligence as well as lack of Enforcement activities.
Attitude of Drivers
People who drives during lock down period are sticking to negligent manner of driving.Over speeding ,Breaking One Way,Negligent entry in road junctions,Use of mobile phones etc are very common among drivers.These activities are bringing accidents also.
Reason for Negligence
Those who drives duing this time thinks that the road is free and no one is coming, The particular drivers thinks that he is the lone driver on road.Other drivers on road are also taking same attitude.They try to break regulations which bring accidents.Over confidence is the main reaosn for this kind of accidents.
Lack of Enforcement Activities
The Enforcement activities by Motor Vehicles Department ( MVD) as well as the Police is totally stoped due to COVID related activities and restrictions.The people on road is aware of the fact that no one is there to book them if any thing wrong was happended on road.This is one of the main reaosn for the repeated road accidents.
The road accidnets taking place during this time take more human life as toll of accidnets.The elements of Over Speed and Rash and Negligent Driving are visible at the above mentioned accident cases.
Chances for increased Casualites
If this situation continues the road accidnet statistics will touch new height in the on coming days after partial or full lifting of the lock down.Enforcement agenceis are duty bound with COVID related acitivities.The Road checking will take little more time to get into full action and shape.Till then the offenders are free to make more mistakes.
